Pursuing higher education can be one of the most important experiences that a person can have in their life. And each person should at least consider it once. But not everyone can afford to go to college. Most students do not have the resources needed to attend higher education. Among these resources include time and finances. Luckily, there are smaller community colleges that can help their students overcome their limitations in order to earn a degree. Among the best of these schools include Enterprise State Community College.
Enterprise State Community College, also known as ESCC, is a community college found in Enterprise, in the State of Alabama. The school started in 1963, when the public junior college system of Alabama was established through the Alabama Legislature. The town of Enterprise was chosen as the site for one of the twelve original state junior colleges. Locals were able to raise money for the purchase of a 100-acre campus site. They also donated library materials, and provided a number of scholarships.
The first class of the school was on 1965 and the school just had 256 students registered at the college. It was originally called the Enterprise State Junior College. The classes took place in rented rooms in town and some rooms of the local Methodist Church. The next year, the school was able to occupy their very own campus. Today the main campus is made up of 7 modern buildings. Aside from Snuggs Hall, there is also Lolley Hall, and a new building, Talmadge Hall, which was built in 1990. In 1983, the College began offering credit courses and non-credit courses at the Fort Rucker satellite campus.
In 2003, the Alabama State Board of Education approved the reorganization of the Alabama Aviation Center in Ozark and the Alabama Aviation Center at Mobile of George C. Wallace College with Enterprise State Junior College. This enabled the college to rename itself as the Enterprise State Community College or ESCC. The school also opened an Aviation Center in Andalusia in 2006, and another Aviation Center in Albertville in 2009. Also in the same year, the State Board of Alabama agreed to the change of the school’s name, as well as the marketing the name for the Aviation programs established in the state of Alabama.
